Welcome
Yoga in the Classroom is written to give school teachers, administrators and educators of all walks of life and all ages, who are exploring yoga with their students, the tools to do so.
It is inspired by the energetic and brilliant reactions of countless K-12 students.
Yoga is a 'science of intelligence,' and breathing techniques (pranayama), self-awareness, stretching, strengthening and balancing postures (asana), mindfulness, relaxation, meditation make up the manual.
A core part of the manual is thirty standing every-day lessons, which may be done beside the desk or seated around a table. Each comes with its description, illustration, anecdote, breath and meditation, anatomy and physiology.
All these proven techniques and poses stand alone ready for your exploration. The instructor will do well to try one thing at a time to start.
One section is devoted to students who are emotionally or physically disadvantaged, and how yoga can help them.
The awareness always comes back to the breath. When the teacher breathes more freely the student has more room.
accessible guide to physical and mental well-being.
